The commentator's treatise says that the six pāramitās have two kinds of fruits: first, future; second, present, as fully revealed in the treatise. Saying "not abiding in things" means not being attached to the future fruit of the dānapāramitā; "should not abide in anything" means not being attached to the future fruits of the other five pāramitās. If one practices giving because of seeking present fruits, it is called practicing giving while "abiding in form, sound," and so forth; if one practices giving because of seeking present-life nirvāṇa, it is called practicing giving while "abiding in dharmas." I remark: based on this, one knows that in "should not abide in anything," the character "dharma" (fa) has been omitted. In principle, it should say, "without abiding in any dharmas, practice dāna." For the rest, see the text of the treatise, and it will naturally be resolved.
