The commentary says: This is the second [part], Subhūti's compliant reply. Within it, first is the direct answer, and next is the explanation of the meaning. It is only because Subhūti is eminent, brilliant, and uniquely outstanding, and the Buddha additionally protected his quick-wittedness, that his mind grasped the meaning and his answer accorded with the Buddha's intention; therefore he said "No." "What is spoken of as bodily signs are not bodily signs" means that what is spoken of as the bodily signs of the three signs are not the signlessness of the dharmakāya. "What is spoken of as bodily signs" refers to the body of three signs, which is sign-possessing. "Are not bodily signs" means that it is not the signless body, because taking signlessness as the sign.
