1.187

述曰，依世親釋，初校量之中上來三段釋疑，自下正校量也。外意云真理之中既無說無取，無菩薩而可得者，所行無相之福，豈不空施耶？世尊挾此意故問善現也。於中初、佛問，次、善現答，後、如來成，此初也。

The commentary states: According to Vasubandhu's explanation, within the initial comparison, the above three sections resolved doubts, and from here on is the actual comparison. The external intention is: since within the true principle there is neither teaching nor grasping, and no bodhisattva to be attained, would the merit of practicing signlessness not be an empty gift? The Bhagavat, holding this intent, therefore questions Subhūti. Within this, first is the Buddha's question, next is Subhūti's answer, and finally the Tathāgata confirms it; this is the first.
