Regarding the place where it was spoken: *Fasu* is a light pronunciation for *Indu*. The old term 'Five Indias' (Tianzhu) was an error. Now explaining *Indu*: here it is translated as 'the Moon Clan' (Yuezhi). In these five regions there are many sages and wise ones; like the moon illuminating the darkness, they are able to dispel burning heat, hence it is so named. The old rendering 'Yuezhi' and the like were all incorrect. 'Śrāvastī' was an error; it should be Śrāvastīpura, which means 'City of Abundant Virtue', meaning abundant in extensive learning, abundant in sensual pleasures, and abundant in liberation. The lord of this city was King Prasenajit, here translated as 'Conquering Army' (Shengjun), which is the name of the capital city of Central India. The kingdom was named Kośala; to distinguish it from Kośala south of the Ganges, it is designated by the city's name. The capital city of that Southern Kośala kingdom had no distinct designation and was named after the kingdom itself. 'Jeta's Grove' refers to the forest of Crown Prince Jeta. 'Jeta' is here translated as 'victorious in battle'. 'Anāthapiṇḍada's Park' refers to what Sudatta purchased from the prince. Now, being designated together, both are cited. The extensive narrative of this origin is set forth in other commentaries.
