Commentary: This is the third [part], the Tathāgata's confirmation. Within it, first is the endorsement, and next is the explanatory confirmation; this is the first. It means that within the principle of tathatā there is nothing attained, nor is there any prediction, because the self is completely empty. The Vimalakīrti[-nirdeśa] says: 'If prediction were received based on the arising of tathatā, tathatā is without arising; if prediction were received based on the cessation of tathatā, tathatā is without cessation,' and so forth. Because tathatā is presently without prediction, it only means that within the true principle there is no real phenomenon that can be aspired to; it does not mean there is also no true wisdom that can accord with bodhi, which is called bodhi. Therefore, in terms of empirical phenomena, bodhi is also not nonexistent.
