Asaṅga says: What does this demonstrate? It is intended to cause them to have faith in the Tathāgata so that they can endure. Herein, "speaker of truth" is to reveal the lakṣaṇa of saṃvṛtisatya. "Speaker of reality" is to reveal that the cultivation of saṃvṛtisatya has lakṣaṇas of defilement and purification; within that, what is real is that this practice is defilement and this practice is purification. "Speaker of suchness" is for the sake of the lakṣaṇa of paramārthasatya. "Speaker of non-alteration" is because cultivation in paramārthasatya has lakṣaṇas of defilement and purification, that he speaks this truth. The general meaning here is: The Tathāgata is the sole honored one in the three realms, the teacher of devas and humans; since he is the master of the dharmadhātu and acts as the physician for the five destinies, having cast off the supreme ornaments of the householder like discarded sandals, and abandoned the great throne of a cakravartin, his Way attained complete awakening and whatever he wished was accomplished. Since he neither aims for fame and gain, nor seeks comfort and pleasure, why would he suddenly utter false speech?
