Commentary: Vasubandhu says: this is the second point, displaying the receiving and upholding of the true, sublime Dharma. Within it, first, it shows that those of great capacity who uphold and recite it shoulder bodhi; second, it shows that those of the two vehicles and ordinary beings cannot listen to and receive it. This is the first. Those who receive and uphold it will be able to realize and attain bodhi; although they have not yet attained it at present, they will certainly attain it in the future, and therefore it is called 'shouldering.' He means carrying upon the shoulder, and dan means bearing a burden: it means that those who receive and uphold it bear and carry the attainment of bodhi.
