Commentary: Vasubandhu explains that this is the second [section], which makes a comparison using the merit of another person's receiving and upholding [the sūtra]. That is to say, making offerings to all Buddhas is merely an approach of merit, an auxiliary dharma to bodhi; whereas listening to, upholding, and reciting [this sūtra] can give rise to wisdom and understanding, tearing apart saṃsāra. That is, even though a bodhisattva may engage in hundreds of thousands of other practices, if they do not cultivate the prajñāpāramitā, they will ultimately never be able to comprehend principles, realize tathatā, or cut off the root of conceptualized saṃsāra. Therefore, by listening to it, one swiftly realizes bodhi.
