The Wei [translation] says: 'All noble persons derive their designation from unconditioned dharmas.' The meaning of the commentary is: noble persons merely derive their designation based on the purity of tathatā, not by attaining any separate dharma; therefore there is no grasping. As for 'speaking of their having distinctions', the commentary says: 'Tathatā is fully endowed with purity and partial purity.' Asaṅga says: '"Unconditioned" has the meaning of non-conceptualization; therefore, bodhisattvas derive their designation as those in training (śaikṣa), while the Tathāgata derives his designation as one beyond training (aśaikṣa). The former unconditioned is manifested when subduing distraction; the latter unconditioned is the supreme awakening of the solely ultimate truth. Because the worthy ones and noble ones of the three vehicles all cultivate and realize the unconditioned, they are spoken of collectively as having distinctions.'
