Srotāpanna is translated here as 'stream-enterer' (ru liu), because one enters the stream of noble ones; it is also called 'stream-enterer' (yu liu), because one participates in the stream of noble ones. Simply by not entering the six sense-objects is it called entering the noble stream, not that there is something else entered. Therefore the commentary says: 'When a noble person attains the fruit, they do not grasp a single dharma nor do they grasp the realms of the six sense-objects; hence it is called counter-stream. Up to an arhat who does not grasp a single dharma—by this meaning, he is called an arhat. However, it is not that they do not grasp their own unconditioned fruit; rather, at the time of realization they are free from afflictions such as grasping at self; therefore, they have no such mind as: "I can attain the fruit." If they gave rise to such a mind as: "I can attain the fruit", that would be attachment to a self and so forth.' Knowing that attaining the fruit has the meaning of non-grasping, how could one doubt and say it is grasping?
