二、聞。我即阿難，五蘊假者。聞謂耳根發識，廢別從總，故云我聞。阿難所不聞二十年前之經，有云如來重說、有云得深三昧總領，若推本而言，即阿難是大權菩薩，何法不通？

Second, hearing. 'I' is Ānanda, the provisional entity of the five aggregates. 'Heard' means the ear faculty generating consciousness; discarding the specific to follow the general, it is therefore said 'I heard'. Regarding the sūtras spoken in the twenty years before Ānanda heard them, some say the Tathāgata expounded them again, while others say he obtained a deep samādhi and comprehended them all; but if traced to the source, Ānanda was a bodhisattva of great expedient manifestation—what Dharma could he not comprehend?
