本秪因以相為佛，故對前不住相起疑；佛舉疑起之因，問答欲令除斷。
Originally, it was precisely because of taking marks to be the Buddha that doubt arose regarding the preceding 'non-abiding in marks'; the Buddha raises the cause from which doubt arose, asking and answering in order to make [him] eliminate it.
