疏故今下。二、明今述解不攻異端。今初兩句對非顯。是故今者由菩薩展轉相授，所以今之述作不攻異端。攻謂攻擊，異謂別異，端即端倪，即顯諸家却是異端也。故云對非顯是。故《論語》云：「攻乎異端斯害也。」已注云：「善道有統故殊塗而同歸，異端不同歸也。」

The commentary from "Therefore now" below: second, clarifying that the present exposition does not attack divergent extremes. Now, the first two lines reveal the correct by contrast with the incorrect. "Therefore now" means that because the bodhisattvas transmitted it down through generations, the present composition does not attack divergent extremes. "Attack" means assault and engage; "divergent" means different and aberrant; "extreme" means endpoint or origin; this reveals that the other masters are in fact divergent extremes. Therefore it says: revealing the correct by contrast with the incorrect. Thus the Analects says: "To apply oneself to divergent extremes is harmful indeed!" The commentary states: "The good Way has a unifying principle; hence though they take different paths they arrive at the same destination, whereas divergent extremes do not arrive at the same destination."
