Second, the honorable title of the author. "Jing" (capital) means metropolis, meaning great; that is, the great place of assembly for gentlemen and commoners, noble and humble. However, it refers to the Western Capital, not the northeast; because there is a tacit selection through the Da Xingfu Monastery, "West" is not stated. "Śramaṇa" is a Sanskrit term, translated here as "diligent cessation"; that is, the general designation for the Śākya assembly, meaning diligently cultivating all practices and bringing afflictions to cessation. "Set forth" (shu) clarifies that it is not an original composition, according with the words "compiling the essentials" above; it merely narrates the intention of former sages, not being an independent composition. For example, the Master [Confucius] said: 'Transmitting and not composing, trusting in and loving antiquity, I venture to compare myself to our Old Peng.'"
