"Resulting in" means consequently causing. Because the aforementioned four dharmas are profound and mysterious, it consequently causes those who chant it to be exceedingly numerous while those who understand it are extremely few. Chanting with the mouth refers to reading and reciting its text. An ox's hairs serve as a metaphor for their abundance. Marvellously understanding the sūtra's meaning is called the mind's comprehension. The qilin is an auspicious beast that appears only when the ruler is sagacious. "Horn": the qilin has only a single horn, a metaphor for those who are awakened being few. Here there are two levels of comparison to discuss quantity: comparing the qilin to an ox, it is already few; comparing its horn to hairs, it is fewer still. The meaning is that among those who read and recite it, they are the most numerous of the numerous, while those who comprehend and awaken to it are the rarest of the rare.
