Regarding 'Among the pāramitās...', and so forth: This clarifies gradual cultivation within sudden awakening. The moment wisdom arises, it illuminates the emptiness of the myriad phenomena and straightaway reaches the other shore, which is called sudden awakening. Because one has habitual dispositions from many lifetimes, one has not yet attained moment-to-moment correspondence; hence one must hear the correct Dharma, reflect on its meaning, and practice as instructed, only then attaining ultimate realization and entry, which is called gradual cultivation. This was briefly clarified in the opening of the title. If spoken in terms of Consciousness-Only, it possesses both fundamental and subsequently attained cognitions. That is, among the ten pāramitās, six apply to both fundamental and subsequent, while four are solely subsequently attained. Among the six, both cognitions are fully possessed; to distinguish the ten pāramitās, the sixth specifically takes the fundamental [cognition] of the two empties. Now, relying on Asaṅga, preparatory cognition is further added, thereby extending across the former three.
