2.247

謂少而無父曰孤，老而無子曰獨，拯給孤獨名為善施。又亦等者，就中孤獨偏所矜哀，其實餘人亦非不施故也。

Being young and fatherless is called 'orphaned'; being old and childless is called 'solitary.' Rescuing and giving to the orphaned and solitary is called 'Benefactor.' Furthermore, "and also..." and so forth means that among them, the orphaned and solitary are especially pitied; in truth, he did not fail to give to others as well.
