Third, the conclusion: Previously, by tracing the fundamental root of all faults and afflictions, it was found to be the two attachments to self and dharmas. If the two attachments are dispelled, the two hindrances are eliminated; if the two hindrances are eliminated, all faults naturally perish. Hence, the source of faults and afflictions is precisely these two attachments. This sūtra was expounded in order to eliminate the two attachments; thus we know that this sūtra is a great and good medicine. Therefore the Heart Sūtra says: "The prajñāpāramitā is a great transcendent mantra, a great bright mantra," and so forth, up to "it can remove all suffering; it is true and not false." If one wishes to know how this sūtra eliminates the two attachments: as the sūtra says, "no notion of a self, notion of a person, notion of a sentient being, or notion of a soul," this eliminates attachment to self; "neither the notion of a dharma nor the notion of a non-dharma," this eliminates attachment to dharmas. Examples of this kind are found throughout the sūtra.
