"One body" means a single retribution body. The meaning is: how could one, for the sake of a single retribution body, seek fame and profit all day long, never satisfying one's desires however much one seeks them, so that even if one accumulates great wealth, at death it belongs to others? The merit of upholding this sūtra is immeasurable and boundless, inexhaustible to the end of future time. When benefit and harm are like this, how could one not [choose upholding it]? The Sūtra on Impermanence says: "Kinfolk all abandon one and leave, / Wealth and goods are left to others' taking; / Only upholding one's own roots of goodness / Serves as provisions along the perilous path."
