躡跡斷疑者。謂躡前語跡斷彼疑情。經中雖不顯有疑辭，而伏在文內，故但言斷而不言起。彌勒頌中亦同於此，故偈云：「調伏彼事中，遠離取相心，及斷種種疑，亦防生成心。」

"Following the traces to sever doubts" means following the traces of the previous words to sever those doubtful states of mind. Although the sūtra does not explicitly state words of doubt, they are implicit within the text; hence it only speaks of severing and not of arising. Maitreya's verses also agree with this, as his verse states: 'In subduing those matters, / one distances oneself from the mind that grasps at marks, / severs various doubts, / and also prevents the arising of conceptual thoughts.'
