4.161

解脫者。證也。即三乘聖果。禪定者。行也。即漏無漏大小乘事理等定也。多聞者。解也。即頓漸偏圓空有等。解此上三者，前必具後，後未必具前。

Regarding "liberation": realization, namely the noble fruits of the three vehicles. Regarding "meditative concentration": practice, namely worldly and world-transcending, Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna, phenomenal and noumenal concentrations. Regarding "great learning": understanding, namely sudden and gradual, partial and perfect, emptiness and existence. Among these three above, the earlier necessarily possess the later, while the later do not necessarily possess the earlier.
