[On the passage] "Signifying meanings...": this means using one phrase to signify one meaning, one meaning making one line, and four meanings forming one verse; identity and difference, existence and emptiness, permanence and impermanence, and so forth, all each have four lines. However, regarding the four lines in the present sūtra, people's explanations differ. Some say: taking "no self, no person, no sentient being, no soul" as the four lines. Some say: taking "if one sees me by form..." and so on as the four lines. Some say: "all conditioned phenomena..." and so on as the four lines. Some say: merely taking any four lines of text within the sūtra constitutes the four lines. Some say: beginning from "thus" to "practised with dedication" constitutes the four lines. Yet the above explanations are all not the correct meaning.
