4.323

答：「所言便得羅漢等者，非謂逾越不證第三，但約欲界惑盡往而不來，望一去說，故云便得等也。若改便得為直至，何也？餘下三品一生斷盡，便往羅漢，即不須前來和會也。」

Answer: "What is called directly attaining arhatship, etc., does not mean skipping over without realizing the third; it is merely spoken in terms of afflictions of the desire realm being exhausted so that they go and do not return, looking forward to that single departure; hence it says directly attaining, etc. What if 'directly attaining' is changed to 'going straight to'? The remaining lower three grades being completely severed in one lifetime, they directly proceed to arhat, so there would be no need for the previous reconciliation."
