From "Non-adornment" downward directly explains. That is, the third line that follows provides the reason; through this, both non-adornment and adornment are obtained. "Non-adornment" excludes the land of phenomenal characteristics as not being what is presently adorned, corresponding in the sūtra to "is no adornment." The intention of "adornment" reveals the land of dharmatā as being what is adorned here, corresponding in the sūtra to "is called adornment." This refers to manifesting merits exceeding the sands of the Ganges to serve as adornment. Just as making utensils from gold—the utensils do not come from outside, but rather one uses these utensils to adorn the gold itself. Therefore, the treatise cited earlier states: "The buddhas have no such thing as adorning countries," and so forth. Thus, among all adornments none surpasses this, and hence it is called the "foremost adornment" and so forth.
