Now this prajñā is possessed by all buddhas and sentient beings alike; but because they are entwined in defilements, they cannot put it to functional use. If they can hear the teaching, understand and awaken to it through the force of internal and external perfuming, they can cut off afflictions and escape saṃsāra; principle and wisdom will merge, and they can produce great function, no different from a buddha. It is like gold remaining in ore, unable to be used as one pleases; if it can be extracted from the ore, it will surely be made into utensils to cut things. Thus we know there is no one who does not possess this wisdom, and we know this wisdom can establish great aims. What is here called prajñā is the Sanskrit term for great wisdom. Vajra is the proper metaphor for prajñā; both the dharma and the metaphor are displayed together, hence it is called "Vajracchedikā Prajñā".
