"Next, regarding harmonizing below with human minds: the commentaries and explications of various schools are doctrinally inadequate and textually verbose, causing students rarely to dare direct their minds to them; thus those who chant it are many, while those who thoroughly comprehend it are few. Thus the preface states: 'Causing those who recite it with their mouths to be as numerous as ox hairs, while those who comprehend it in their minds are as rare as unicorn horns.' Now this commentary grasps the essential pivots and directly elucidates the sūtra; combining sūtra and commentary, it fills fifty sheets; regardless of whether monastic or lay, all may apply their minds to it; not only the superior, but also the intermediate and inferior capacities may study it. Having these two intentions, it was therefore composed. This represents wisdom first and compassion second, benefiting both oneself and others. Hence it is titled 'Essentials of the Commentaries and Treatises on the Vajracchedikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra'."
