The Commentary from "If not first" onward: Second, revealing through negation: "If not first discarding discarding" reveals through negation the meaning of wisdom penetrating the threefold emptiness. That is, the two attachments are that which is discarded, and the two kinds of emptiness are that which discards. Furthermore, the two kinds of emptiness are that which is discarded, and the emptiness of both is that which discards. Since the emptiness of both discards the two kinds of emptiness, and the affliction of emptiness is also empty, it is called "discarding discarding." As the Sūtra of Perfect Enlightenment says: "One should distance oneself from all illusory and false realms; because of firmly upholding the mind of distancing, the mind that is like an illusion is also distanced from; distancing being an illusion is also distanced from; and being free from the illusion of distancing is also distanced from."
