"Not pāramitās", etc.: although one practices giving and the rest, because there is no wisdom to guide them, they all become dwelling on signs; because of dwelling on signs, they become tainted, resulting merely in mundane wholesome causes and pleasurable fruits, and are thus not causes of Buddhahood. Therefore the Bodhisaṃbhāra-śāstra says: "Giving, morality, patience, vigor, concentration, / and whatever is beyond these five, / all through the perfection of wisdom, / are subsumed under the pāramitās."
