From "This sūtra" downward: directly resolving it. Regarding "departing from characteristics is subduing the mind": as quoted above, having no delivery, no abiding, and so on. Regarding "it must be revealed in terms of abiding and cultivation": if there is generating the mind and practicing cultivation, only then can subduing the mind be spoken of; if there were no abiding and cultivation, what subduing and restraint could be spoken of? This being so, it is only within abiding and cultivation that conceptual, deluded thoughts are subdued, hence it says 'they are originally not separate from each other.'
