[On] "possessing the four lines": this means the meaning lacks nothing; existence is not definitely existent, being an existence that is nonexistence; nonexistence is not definitely nonexistent, being a nonexistence that is existence. The rest follow this pattern. In any single line, one completely sees the meaning of the four lines, not falling into slanders such as increase or decrease; hence it becomes a gate. Why? Because dharmas are like this, and one sees according to dharma. In this case, prajñāpāramitā is like a clear, cool pool, accessible from all four sides. It is only that persons rely on the Dharma; when the Dharma differs, persons diverge. If the meaning of the Dharma is fully complete, how could bodhi not be realized? Therefore it says upholding this sūtra surpasses the merit of giving.
