Answer: "If one wishes to seek bodhi, one must practice giving. When first practicing giving, it is difficult to accord suddenly; one must use the mind with skillful means to conform with it: when thoughts arise spontaneously, make a conscious effort to distance oneself from them. After applying the mind for a long time, one will naturally and spontaneously attain accord with the principle, progressing gradually from subtle to manifest in correspondence. As the Awakening of Faith says: 'Tathatā is free from words, speech, and names, beyond the reach of the conditioning mind.' Thereupon a question was raised: 'If such is the meaning, how should sentient beings conform with it so as to be able to enter?' Therefore the answer states: 'If one knows that although all dharmas are thought, there is neither a thinker nor that which can be thought, this is called conforming. If one is free from thought, this is called attaining entrance, and so forth.'"
