「須菩提！忍辱波羅蜜，如來說非忍辱波羅蜜。何以故？須菩提！如我昔為歌利王割截身體，我於爾時無我相、無人相、無眾生相、無壽者相。何以故？我於往昔節節支解時，若有我相、人相、眾生相、壽者相，應生嗔恨。須菩提！又念過去於五百世作忍辱仙人，於爾所世無我相、無人相、無眾生相、無壽者相。」

"Subhūti! The kṣāntipāramitā, the Tathāgata says, is not the kṣāntipāramitā. Why is this? Subhūti! In the past, when King Kali cut my body to pieces, at that time I had no mark of a self, no mark of a person, no mark of a sentient being, and no mark of a life-span. Why is this? In the past, when I was dismembered joint by joint and limb by limb, if I had the mark of a self, the mark of a person, the mark of a sentient being, or the mark of a life-span, I should have given rise to anger and resentment. Subhūti! I also recall that in the past, for five hundred lifetimes, I was an ascetic of patience; in those lifetimes I had no mark of a self, no mark of a person, no mark of a sentient being, and no mark of a life-span."
