信力曰受，念力曰持，對文曰讀，背文曰誦。所謂書寫、受、持、讀、誦者，自行也；為人解說者，化他也。

The power of faith is called "receiving"; the power of mindfulness is called "upholding"; facing the text is called "reading"; from memory without the text is called "reciting." What is called copying, receiving, upholding, reading, and reciting is practice for oneself; explaining it to others is transforming others.
