1.199

由前云實無有法發菩提心者，意謂無發心者則無菩薩，若無菩薩，云何釋迦於然燈佛所名曰善慧，布髮掩泥，行菩薩行，得受記耶？佛恐善現潛有此疑，故舉以問。

From the previous statement that in reality there is no dharma that gives rise to the bodhi-mind, it implies that if there is no one who gives rise to the mind, then there is no bodhisattva. If there is no bodhisattva, why was Śākyamuni at the place of the Buddha Dīpaṃkara named Sumati, spreading his hair over the mud, practicing the bodhisattva conduct, and receiving the prediction? Fearing that Subhūti might secretly harbour this doubt, the Buddha brought it up as a question.
