A "composite mark" refers to the harmonious combination of many dust motes into a single world. "Not a composite mark" means it is not a composite [entity] of grasped intrinsic nature; "is named a composite mark" refers to a combination free from intrinsic nature. This composite mark is inconceivable and ineffable, yet ordinary persons, failing to understand, spontaneously give rise to covetous attachment. This illustrates that the entire response is the dharma, and the dharma is not separate from the response; how could there be any unitary nature?
