波羅蜜是梵語，華言到彼岸。眾生在生死海中無有窮極，修此般若到涅槃彼岸，蓋大乘菩薩達生死即涅槃，則非度而度、非到而到也。

'Pāramitā' is Sanskrit, translated into Chinese as 'arrived at the other shore'. Sentient beings in the sea of birth and death have no end to it; practicing this prajñā, they reach the other shore of nirvāṇa. Because the Mahāyāna bodhisattva realizes that birth and death are themselves nirvāṇa, it is crossing over without crossing over, arriving without arriving.
