If one has the four marks, they are called the four inversions. If one does not cause a single sentient being to attain extinction, or if one sees sentient beings as truly attaining extinction, then one has failed to thoroughly penetrate the original source, and consequently the four marks of a self, a person, a sentient being, and a life-span arise, so that one is not called a bodhisattva.
