"Why is this? If a bodhisattva practices giving without abiding in marks, their merit cannot be measured. Subhūti, what do you think? Can the space in the eastern direction be measured?" "No, Bhagavat." "Subhūti, can the space in the south, west, north, the four intermediate directions, above, and below be measured?" "No, Bhagavat." "Subhūti, when a bodhisattva practices giving without abiding in marks, the merit is also like this: it cannot be measured. Subhūti, a bodhisattva should simply abide as instructed."
