First, as for the occasion for the arising of the teaching: the Vajracchedikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra is indeed an exquisite appellation for real wisdom and the common title of true virtue. Its essential origin is empty and tranquil, its spiritual concentration profound and unified; it solely illumines the obscure origin, and its complete radiance equals universal awakening. Containing supreme brilliance yet obliterating discrimination, dark and boundless yet hidden beyond causal reckonings, this can truly be called the original limit of sentient beings, the perfect purport of nirvāṇa, the real nature of causes and conditions, and the treasury of teachings on the dharmadhātu. Thus one knows that the true nature is empty and merged, everywhere present; a single word encompasses all, and differing expressions contain nothing else. It is merely that the sagely instruction adapts to capacities, so the gates of teaching are not one. To advance beginning bodhisattvas and to draw in śrāvakas of ripe faculties, it is distributed into distinct divisions, thereby completing the firm teaching of the text on emptiness.
