In the fourth section, the text displaying the excellence of virtue, there are broadly two parts: first, there are three phrases that, by using the lesser to display the greater, reveal the excellence of virtue; second, from 'Subhūti, you should know' onwards, it clarifies the excellence in terms of abundant merit. Here, 'excellence' has two aspects: first, the place of preaching is excellent, because wherever this sūtra is spoken, it causes [beings] to produce thoughts of extraordinary reverence; second, the person capable of preaching is excellent, because being able to receive, uphold, and preach it makes the person excellent. Furthermore, the reason both are excellent is that the giving of precious jewels is a cause tainted with defilements, capable of generating affairs of defilement; whereas these two excellences are free from the causes of defilement, hence they are called excellent.
