"Subhūti, to state the essential, this sūtra has inconceivable, inestimable, and boundless merit. This dharma gate is spoken by the Tathāgata for those who have set their minds on the Mahāyāna, and spoken for those who have set their minds on the Supreme Vehicle. If there is a person who can accept, uphold, read, recite, and practice this sūtra, and broadly explain it for others, the Tathāgata fully knows this person and fully sees this person; they all achieve an inconceivable, inestimable, boundless, and immeasurable mass of merit. People such as these are bearing the anuttarā samyaksaṃbodhi of the Tathāgata. Why is this? Subhūti, if one delights in inferior dharmas, then with regard to this sūtra one will be unable to accept, uphold, read, recite, practice, or explain it for others. If one holds a view of a self, a view of a sentient being, a view of a person, or a view of a life-span, it is impossible that one could accept, uphold, read, recite, practice, or explain this dharma gate for others. Subhūti, wherever this sūtra is located, it should be venerated by all the world's devas, humans, and asuras. You should know that this place is a stūpa; all should reverently pay homage and circumambulate it, scattering various flowers and incenses upon that place. Furthermore, Subhūti, if a good man or good woman who accepts, upholds, reads, and recites this sūtra is despised and slighted by others, why is this? Because this person's sinful karma from past lives would have caused them to fall into the evil destinies, but because they are despised and slighted by people in the present life, the sinful karma from past lives is extinguished, and they will attain anuttarā samyaksaṃbodhi."
