"Subhūti, what do you think? Can the Buddha be seen by means of the replete physical body?" Subhūti said, "No, World-Honored One. The Tathāgata should not be seen by means of the replete physical body. Why is this? What the Tathāgata speaks of as the replete physical body is not the replete physical body; therefore the Tathāgata calls it the replete physical body." The Buddha said to Subhūti, "What do you think? Can the Tathāgata be seen by means of being replete with all marks?" Subhūti said, "No, World-Honored One. The Tathāgata should not be seen by means of being replete with all marks. Why is this? What the Tathāgata speaks of as being replete with all marks is not replete; therefore the Tathāgata calls it being replete with all marks." The Buddha said, "Subhūti, what do you think? Do you suppose that the Tathāgata has this thought: 'I should have a dharma to teach'? Subhūti, do not have this thought. Why is this? If someone says, 'The Tathāgata has a dharma to teach,' they slander the Buddha, because they cannot understand what I teach. Why is this? Subhūti, what the Tathāgata speaks of as teaching the Dharma, teaching the Dharma, has no dharma to teach; this is called teaching the Dharma."
