4.16

問：雜煩惱化眾生有何失？答：自既有縛，豈能化他凡夫？則師既墮，弟亦隨墮。二乘則謗佛敗法，於諸眾生而起怨心，豈成利益耶？

Question: What fault is there in transforming sentient beings while commingled with afflictions? Answer: Since one is bound oneself, how could one transform other ordinary beings? The master falls, and the disciple falls along with him. As for the two vehicles, they slander the Buddha and destroy the Dharma, giving rise to resentment toward sentient beings—how could this bring benefit?
