From "the three ranks of worthies and ten sages" below, the third [section consists of] eight verses that comprehensively summarize and praise the five patiences. The text has three [parts]: first, it praises the fruition of the Dharmakāya; later, it praises the fruition of benefiting others. In the first [part], intending to clarify their excellence, it first adduces what is inferior. The three ranks of worthies are the thirty minds prior to the bhūmis, and the ten sages are the bodhisattvas of the ten bhūmis. These forty minds are reborn together in the retributive land of the Lotus Treasury (Padmagarbha), which is not the retributive fruition within the Tripiṭaka or shared teachings. If it were the Tripiṭaka teaching, it would solely be the land where ordinary and noble beings dwell together. If one discusses the shared teaching, they are reborn solely in the land of expedient means with remainder, the conjured city. Now, when it speaks of the retributive fruition, it refers to persons of the distinctive and perfect teachings who obtain unimpededness and are born into the unimpeded land.
