Question: If ignorance is not yet exhausted, it should be affliction. Why does the preceding text state that buddhas and bodhisattvas enter this concentration together? Answer: The nature of ignorance is itself illumination, just as when a lamp arises, it is simultaneously when [darkness] ceases; it is merely that a single thought of the ignorant mind transforms into illumination—faint illumination is the bodhisattva, and great illumination is the buddha.
