"These dharmas instantly arise" takes up the earlier dharmas such as form, which arise because of aggregation. "Instantly abide": conditioned things temporarily pause, which is called abiding. "Instantly cease": not continuing to arise is cessation. "Instantly existent and instantly empty": because of aggregation they are instantly existent, and because their self-essence is empty they are instantly empty. Therefore the Vimalakīrtinirdeśa says: "They are also arising, also aging, and also ceasing." Here, the three characteristics should be explained extensively and then thoroughly refuted, but they are not detailed now. From "from moment to moment it is also like this" downward, it discerns emptiness with respect to the mind. "Dharmas arise, dharmas abide, and dharmas cease" explains that mental dharmas also possess the three characteristics.
