所集不同，隨流各異，不能具出。天台智者於眾經中闊明五義，今於此部例亦五門分別。（第一釋經名、第二出經體、第三明經宗、第四辨經用、第五論經相）。標其名字、示其名下之體、明其綱宗、辨其功用、論其教相，此則一經大意略盡，委釋具如《法華經》初，今略明之。

The compilations being disparate and varying with their respective traditions, they cannot all be cited. Tiantai Zhizhe broadly elucidated five aspects across the various sūtras; here for this text, five divisions are likewise distinguished by analogy. (First, explaining the title of the sūtra; second, setting forth the substance of the sūtra; third, clarifying the central theme of the sūtra; fourth, discerning the function of the sūtra; fifth, discussing the characteristics of the teaching of the sūtra.) Stating its title, showing the substance beneath the title, clarifying its guiding theme, discerning its efficacy and function, and discussing the characteristics of its teaching—by these the general import of the sūtra is broadly exhausted. A detailed explanation is fully set out at the beginning of [the commentary on] the Lotus Sūtra; here it is explained briefly.
