Twelfth, listing the assembly of emanations. These are inconceivable bodhisattvas, and thus they are able to transform the pure lands of the ten directions, as well as buddhas and assemblies, to come to this land. With respect to the text there are three [parts]: 1. explaining the inconceivable power capable of transforming lands; 2. from 'with immeasurable' onward, explaining the inconceivable power capable of manifesting buddhas and bodhisattvas; 3. from 'each individual buddha' onward, explaining the inconceivable power capable of expounding prajñā. First, explaining the transformation of lands: the text says 'ten directions', which are the six directions and the four intermediate directions. 'Pure lands' are like the Western Pure Land. 'Ten billion' means ten billion suns and moons, ten billion Sumerus. From 'being immeasurable transformed buddhas' onward, second, explaining the inconceivable power capable of manifesting buddhas and bodhisattvas. Later, explaining the eight classes: 1. kṣatriya assembly, 2. śramaṇa assembly, 3. brāhmaṇa [assembly], 4. Four Heavenly Kings assembly, 5. Thirty-Three Heavens assembly, 6. Six Desire Heavens assembly, 7. Māra assembly, 8. Brahmā assembly. Furthermore, regarding the eight classes of dragons and spirits: 1. gandharvas, 2. piśācas—these two belong to Heavenly King Dhṛtarāṣṭra; 3. kumbhāṇḍas, 4. pretas—these two belong to Heavenly King Virūḍhaka; 5. nāgas, 6. pūtanas—these two belong to Heavenly King Virūpākṣa; 7. yakṣas, 8. rākṣasas—these two belong to Heavenly King Vaiśravaṇa.
