From "At that time, the entire great assembly together" downward is the fifth [section] within the occasion of expounding the sūtra, the section on raising doubts. In the text there are four distinctions: first, the assembly shares the same doubt; from "said to one another" downward, second, speaking and debating; from "previously for our sake" downward, third, recounting the matter of their doubt; from "at that time the sixteen great kings" downward, fourth, explaining that the Tathāgata's affairs are incomprehensible. In the first text, "together" (qianran) means all alike. Second, debating: "said to one another" means inquiring of and conferring with one another. "The four fearlessnesses": wishing to express the sentiment of their doubt, they first cite the Buddha's virtues; hence they explain the four fearlessnesses: 1. all-knowledge; 2. exhaustion of outflows; 3. the path of exhausting suffering; 4. expounding obstructive paths. As for their shared name of "fearlessness," the Daśabhūmika-vibhāṣā states: "Not fearing external challenges; hence it is called fearlessness." The eighteen unshared dharmas are: 1. faultlessness of body; 2. faultlessness of speech; 3. faultlessness of mindfulness; 4. no disparate perception; 5. no uncollected mind; 6. no mind that abandons without discernment; 7. no decrease in zeal; 8. no decrease in vigor; 9. no decrease in mindfulness; 10. no decrease in wisdom; 11. no decrease in liberation; 12. no decrease in the knowledge and vision of liberation; 13. all bodily actions accord with wisdom; 14. all vocal actions accord with wisdom; 15. all mental actions accord with wisdom; 16. wisdom knows the past without impediment; 17. wisdom knows the future without impediment; 18. wisdom knows the present without impediment.
