爾時佛告大眾：「知十六大國王意欲問護國土因緣，吾今先為諸菩薩說護佛果因緣、護十地行因緣。」

"At that time the Buddha addressed the great assembly: 'I know the intention of the sixteen great kings is to inquire into the causes and conditions for protecting the state's territory. I shall now first expound for the bodhisattvas the causes and conditions for protecting the Buddha-fruit, and the causes and conditions for protecting the practice of the ten stages.'"
